M.A.D.
M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction) is a nuclear strategy game you play right in your browser: a 1v1 missile duel on fully destructible land, and a living world where two nations grow, arm and go to war on their own. Free, nothing to install.
Now on iPhone and iPad: M.A.D. on the App Store. Free with every mode; the Full Arsenal is a one-time purchase there. Here on the web, everything stays free.
The duel
- Two nations, one procedurally generated map. Your base: headquarters, silos, rocket batteries, missile defences, radar and tank factories.
- 16 weapons in three tabs, from rocket salvos and hypersonic gliders to MIRVs, the Tsar Bomba, an orbital beam, antimatter and a black hole.
- Saturate the enemy defences, protect your cities, then raze the enemy headquarters or break its population to win.
- Three AI levels, a sandbox with unlimited credits, and AI versus AI if you just want to sit back and watch the missiles fly.
The living world
- A god game on the same maps. Villages grow into cities street by street, the eras pass (industrial, atomic, orbital), and the nations build silos and go to war on their own.
- Food, wood and ore decide where each nation expands and when it fights.
- You command no side: drop any weapon anywhere, call down a meteor, raise a volcano, send a tsunami or rain, found towns, shape the land, rebuild the ruins.
A world that really breaks
- Craters dug into the ground, buildings torn into slabs and girders, shock fronts, firestorms, mushroom clouds, bridges that fall.
- Every map is settled by ten centuries of simulated history: towns and villages of every size, road networks, rivers that follow the valleys, lakes in the hollows. Water floods a crater only where it really can.
- Five map types (island, archipelago, valley, desert, arctic), three sizes, any seed, dusk, night or day.
- All the sound is synthesised live: air-raid sirens, blasts that arrive at the speed of sound, wind, birds, a generative score.
Controls
- Mouse: left click fires the armed weapon (drag to pan when nothing is armed), right drag turns the camera, the wheel zooms toward the cursor.
- Keyboard: 1 to 6 arm a weapon, Tab switches tab (classic, nuclear, experimental). WASD, ZQSD or the arrows pan, Q and E rotate. Space follows the latest missile, V slows time, C toggles the cinematic camera. H and G jump to your base and the enemy base. R calls reinforcements, B recharges your missile defences. P or Esc pauses (volumes, graphics, time of day), M mutes, U hides the interface.
- Touch: one finger moves, pinch zooms, two fingers turn and tilt; tap to aim, then press FIRE.
Good to know
- Interface in English and French. Mouse and keyboard, or touch on tablets and phones.
- Best on a desktop computer with Chrome or Edge. Four graphics levels and automatic resolution for smaller machines.
- An iPhone and iPad version is coming soon to the App Store.
- Made solo by Stark Edition. Ideas and feedback are very welcome in the comments.

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play." (Obligatory WarGames reference.)
Actually, an interesting game. You can either play it as a regular strategy game, or kick back and watch the missiles fly! If the question you're asking here is "EXPLOSIONS?" The answer here is "YES!"
Thanks for the comment ! That's exactly the vibe I wanted to give to the game. You can either play the strategy and push the red button yourself or just watch it fight like in the old days of CPU vs. CPU on Dragon Ball Budokai. I plan on adding more strategic elements to the gameplay, and even more weapons of mass destruction to the game.
